I made a stupid mistake in my code and it caused duplication of charges to the amount of 30k. After the duplicated charges were discovered another person where I work got blamed and I said nothing. The worst part is this person really thinks he screwed up and might be fired for it. But I really need this job and since I’ve fixed the code problem and since no one else ever looked at the code I will never tell and will never be caught.
Sounds like a yuckky feeling, IDK what I would do
sounds pretty slimy.
Hopefully for your sake, they will not find out it was all your fault the screw up happened. Unfortunately, the person who did nothing has no choice in the matter. Lucikly, this innocent person does not have a spouse or family that depends on them for money, cause if so they are screwed. You need the job? I presume the other person doesn’t. When you are in the situation, it is always easier to do the wrong thing, but don’t complain if you still end up getting fired for something else you screwed up or if they fire you both; that person for not even realizing they did not screw up and you for causing this major headache. You know, if you would only say something, then you would not be wasting everyones time trying to figure out how it happened. Just remember, karma is a bitch. Best of Luck!
since problem are fixed and it was you who fixed it, you could more easily tell them it was your fault and you are sorry for being a ***** not to admit it first.. everyone needs a job for whatever reason they have needing it. maybe the least you can do is atleast tell that person that it was you who screwed up and your boss.. dont need to be everyone to know. just you, your concern collegue and your boss..
Wow , , your a self son of a b*tch who make a mistake and is letting another man fall for it. I dont know who you are i can only hope you can sleep at night being such an a hole, i hope you tell the university before some one else does….
You should just tell the university straight up, and HOPE TO GOD that they wont fire you or whatever. Why the hell should the innocent guy get fired for a costly mistake you made!?
Yuk – you have to tell them the truth. How can you watch somebody else being fired or disciplined for something they not only did but that you did? I agree with RealisticCaitlin – you have no right to keep quiet on this one, I don;t care how many mouths you have to feed. Nobody else should have to carry the can for your mistake. Come clean now. The universe will bite you on the ass if you don’t.
I hope, if you choose to not tell the truth, that karma will get you.
You would have to be a jackarse if you honestly think any of these people who are saying to tell…would do so if it was THEM in your shoes. Why? Because it’s so easy to be the karma police when it isn’t you!
Sure the OP would be a jerk for letting the other guy take the fall, but lets not forget the other guy is a dope for taking the firing/blame! He would know he didn’t do it and have a VERY GOOD case for court! In some ways he is almost better off than the guy stuck working…if he is smart enough to do something about it.
But unless you are crazy, you wouldn’t admit to it either! Why? Because 1. it would career suicide and 2. most people really aren’t that honest!
Actually Lisa, I have been in a similar situation and I HAVE told the truth. Not everyone is like you…..
TELL THE FREAKIN’ TRUTH ALREADY!
You think you are getting lucky but you are not! Karma will get you- you will have something happen 10x worse later on, trust me. Someday someone will screw you, and you will feel terrible.
The right choices are the hardest to make. It is the human condition. I would think they would’ve understood when it happened though. Now if you tell them it will appear as selfish and vindictive..which it is. Try to move on and let this make you a better person. Next time you have to do what is right do it…even if it risks your security.
Confess. Confess. Tell the truth even if your voice shakes. Even if you are not caught, the innocent will lose will job and you, my dear will feel guilty the rest of your life. He might also need the job like you. He might have a situation no different than yours. But whatever you chose lies in your hand but remember your conscience will always prick you and as they say what goes around comes back around. ..it was your mistake in the first place but then again mistakes happen cause we are not perfect.
