Only someone who was very hurt themselves would inflict pain upon other things around them. It is a very normal response to the taught behavior of violence to be violent. It seems you have a very standard abusive streak, but it doesn't make you a bad person. You need to find some self control, and remember, it's sad to hurt a cat, but better a cat than a child or another person. Violence is a sad thing, it often turns a victim into a perpetrator.
