Hey. As a girl who grew up in a small town, in love with her best friend, I can relate to this.
Perhaps things may never work out between you and your friend, but there are other people out there.
At 27 years old, I must say that leaving my small town (for college and adventure), I have been exposed to lots of different ways of thinking. The queer community is really wonderful, and there are lots of accepting people out there! You will find connections if you look for them.
In terms of right now… if you don’t want to come out in your town, no worries.
I wanted to write, though, to let you know there is a really cool world out there, and encourage you to, someday, explore it. That might give you the confidence and support you need for dealing with the small town awkwardness.
Anonymous234, please visit Dan Savage’s (the celebrated columnist!) itgetsbetter.org. There’s tons of great videos to give LGBTQQ youth hope for the future, from people who have been there.
May you have love and light on your journey! Here’s to one day living an honest life with your lovely partner in a wonderful city! It gets better!
