We never talked about it, so now I never talk to them

We never had any problems in my family. Drugs, alcohol, teenage pregnany, cutting, cancer. Not a problem. We pretended it didn’t happen. Never said a word about it. Eventually we couldn’t even look each other in the eyes.
8 other people in that house and not one of them came to see me in the hospital.
30 years later and they wonder why I never call.

Thirty years ago, things weren’t talked about. They thought that if things weren’t talked about, they’d be forgotten. Maybe they did the best they could but it’s your right to not talk to them. In fact, I agree and I don’t talk to my family of origin for the same reasons. It’s not easy but it is they key to our sanity and well-being. Blessings to us both
